This program highlights the benefits of the multidisciplinary approach to patient care, which includes primary care physicians, nurses, podiatrists, surgeons, wound care specialists and lab technicians. PAD, CLI, coronary artery disease and stroke are very complex diseases that require the collaborative efforts of a multidisciplinary team to treat successfully. The audience represents the different healthcare fields that need to come together to raise awareness among patients about CVD symptoms, the importance of follow-up care and the dangers that not seeking treatment may lead to, including stroke, amputation, and death.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, vascular medicine specialists, cardiothoracic, endovascular, vascular and general surgeons, interventional radiologists, osteopaths, family physicians, internists, endocrinologists, podiatrists, physical medicine and rehabilitation, residents and fellows, diabetes & wound care specialists, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, nurses, radiology technologists, physical therapists, paramedics, EMTs and healthcare administrators.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the indications, risks and complications of interventional therapies in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, peripheral artery disease, and critical limb ischemia.
  • Implement contemporary approaches in peripheral vascular management (including carotid, renal and mesenteric, SFA, below the knee, venous disease and aortic) based on recent clinical trials and evidenced-based data.
  • Apply appropriate applications of new endovascular technologies for patients with vascular disease.
  • Describe appropriate pharmacologic management in the care of patients with cardiovascular disease, peripheral artery disease and critical limb ischemia.
  • Discuss various testing modalities and comprehensive spectrum of care in patients with foot ulcers and threatened limbs.
  • Explain proper use and interpretation of diagnostic tools and apply appropriate screening techniques for peripheral artery disease.
  • Recognize the roles and responsibilities of multidisciplinary members of a comprehensive PAD clinical team.
  • Discuss and apply new trends in less invasive surgery.
  • Recognize and articulate the current state of healthcare in the US: Where we are and where we are going.
  • Define and assess the role of the physician in management of PAD: From screening to limb salvage.
